Parents need to know that action/comedy Red 2 is the (disappointing) sequel to 2010’s successful Red, and many of the characters (played by Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker and others) return. Violence is again the main issue, with crazy, explosive, cartoonish action/fighting/shooting scenes throughout. Characters are stabbed, shot, and killed; there are bloody martial arts fights and lots of crashes and explosions. The good guys face no repercussions for any of the violent acts they’re involved in. Language is fairly minor, with a few uses of “s—t” and “bitch.” Expect some brief sexual references and situations; hard drugs (LSD and acid) are also mentioned, and characters drink vodka in one scene. Commercialism is fairly strong, with several brands featured onscreen.

I am thinking about giving this test to my 11th graders during our discussion on education to given them a bit of perspective. They read contemporary pieces discussing educational issues, and historical pieces (Think “On Education” by Emerson), then I ask them to think of a way to improve the system and argue their case.
So, my husband and I have been thinking about preschool since our little lady turns 2 in less than a month. We are really leaning towards Montessori, but I don’t know details on how/if they teach children to read, add, subtract, you know…meaty things. Can anyone share personal experiences? Opinions?

We have an amazing warehouse bookfair that is open a couple of weeks every month. They recently purchased new, pretty shelving so I was able to pick up 4 short bookcases for $5 each. I want to paint them so they look extra happy for my classroom. So, what colors should I paint them? All suggestions are welcome. H - That is a no go on the smoking. My students and I had a conversation this year about how few teachers smoke. It seems to be true. I do enjoy a good cider.
My last relationship ended over 10 years ago for silly college kid reasons. I - Belly button (not anymore), I had my cartilage and rook pierced as well, but after an emergency MRI I just never put them back in. No tattoos yet. This is always hard. I think I have to pick Ben Kweller’s version of “Lollipop” because it is request A LOT in my house and if I didn’t love it then I would have already gone crazy.
I have double (ish) jointed elbows and the totally gross out my students. I only hate school (work) when I have been given a task that is not English related. Study hall, lunch duty, etc. My eyes are blue on the outside and green on the inside. They change a bit depending on what I am wearing. I am going into my 8th year of teaching at the same school am I still get mistaken for a student on casual days.I see what you did there. My hair is long. This is solely because my toddler is obsessed with my hair and would be devastated if I cut it.
We fought for it, and then we rolled it up, passed it around, exposed it to sun, smoke, and copying processes which nearly destroyed it, and otherwise took it for granted. Is anything more American? Maybe only that someone once tried to scotch tape it back together when it was nearly too late.
